Chanel: Beauty Tribute

CHANEL shows are not only highly-anticipated due to the beautiful clothes, celebrity front row and impressive model line-up - the catwalk make-up is just as noteworthy.
Make-up artist Peter Philips and hairstylist Sam McKnight have experimented with everything from pastel wigs to mesh lashes over the years, always managing to create looks strong enough to complement Karl Lagerfeld's headline-grabbing collections.

Here, i take a look back at Chanel's most innovative, extravagant and creative catwalk make-up.

Mesh "lashes" were applied to each model's upper and lower lash lines, creating a smeared, smudged effect - as if the model had been crying and her make-up had left feathered tracks upon her cheeks. The look was finished with smoky, pewter shadow, pearly lips and nude nails.

Glitter was applied to the eye lids and lashes, whilst a line of black under the eyes added definition. Lips were given a pale gloss, whilst brows were strong and groomed.
Sam McKnight fitted each model with a bobbed wig in either platinum blonde, chestnut brown or jet black, complementing Peter Philips's painterly eye make-up.
Eyes were a striking silver lined with black, whilst skin was kept matte and lips painted a pale glossy pink.
Peter Philips created steely smoky eyes and matte complexions, leaving the lips a natural pink.
Dewy skin and defined eyes with shimmery shadow gave models an ethereal prettiness, whilst piercing-like pearl embellishments - born from Karl Lagerfeld's desire to have pearls in the models' hair - provided a tougher edge.
