Spring 2014 Ready to Wear Dolce & Gabbana

Sicily is proving a truly bottomless well of inspiration for Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana. Today was their umpteenth collection drawing on yet another facet of Sicilian culture, in this case the island's interaction with Greece in the ancient world. Sounds kind of academic, but it wasn't. Dolce and Gabbana are designers, after all, not history teachers. So when they used old photographs of ruined amphitheaters as prints, they had a pleasing graphic quality. Ionic columns reproduced as heels on shoes were a flash of wit.

Fall 2014 Mens Wear Diesel Black Gold

"It's my first men's collection—ever," Diesel Black Gold's Andreas Melbostad said backstage after his Florentine show. Pitti Uomo is a large and intimidating stage on which to make your debut, but if Melbostad was fazed by the occasion, he didn't show it. His approach was methodical and, more to the point, probably the right one given the circumstances. He didn't shoot out of the gate with an entirely new proposition; he identified the core of what Diesel does well and offered a stark, pared-back version of it that plays well with the biker-chick look he's been plying at Diesel Black Gold's womenswear. (To underscore the point, Melbostad sent out a few girls in custom looks.)

Why Jennifer Lawrence Fell At The Oscars

JENNIFER LAWRENCE says that the reason she fell at last year's Oscars was because she had cake on her mind. The actress tumbled up the steps upon collecting her Best Actress Oscar for Silver Linings Playbook, tripping over her Dior Couture gown.

"I was at the Oscars, waiting to hear
if my name was called, and I kept thinking, 'cakewalk, cakewalk, cakewalk,'" she told W magazine. "I thought, 'Why is cakewalk stuck in my head?' And then, as I started to walk up the stairs and the fabric from my dress tucked under my feet, I realised my stylist had told me, 'Kick, walk, kick, walk.' You are supposed to kick the dress out while you walk, and I totally forgot because I was thinking about cake! And that's why I fell."

Lawrence is up for Best Supporting Actress for her role as a gangster's wife in American Hustle at both the 2014 Golden Globes and BAFTAs.

The Worst Thing About Being Beautiful

VICTORIA'S SECRET and Prada model Lyndsey Scott has spoken very candidly about the best and worst things about being beautiful - and she is in a position to know, having, according to her, transitioned relatively recently from being a "geek" to someone who makes a living from their looks.

"The perks of being good looking: People offer me a lot more freebies, strangers talk to me more often, more people listen to me and laugh at my jokes, and I even have the occasional suitor... all good things," she shared. "On the other hand: would-be catcallers will sometimes skip the compliments and just call me a bitch as I walk by, some women (although very few) are very catty to me from the get-go, and many people are shocked to find out that I'm anything other than an airhead - that I was a computer science major, and that I program iOS apps, for example. Sometimes it all makes me very, very angry. Sometimes even a complimentary catcall can make my blood boil.

Resort 2014 GIVENCHY

Riccardo Tisci had the show of his career in March, and he followed it up by cohosting the Costume Institute's Punk show in May and picking up the CFDA's International Award last week. "This year has been beautiful and amazing for me," he said. It's no wonder his Resort collection had such an upbeat, optimistic feel.

He started with a series of layered white lace looks, one of which was worn by Joan Smalls to the CFDAs.

Spring 2014 Mens Wear GIVENCHY

Nerd Africa? That was Riccardo Tisci's label for his Givenchy collection, though it wasn't the first thing that came to mind when his distinctly un-nerdy warriors had filed off the catwalk. Techno-tribalism maybe; Tisci's prints were based on the technology of sound dissected and reconfigured as tribal patterns. Boom boxes and reel-to-reels and home studios broken down into their component parts, rearranged in a perfectly symmetrical pattern, detailed in bright primary colors—that was Tisci's news for today.

Spring 2014 Ready to Wear GIVENCHY

Tonight at Givenchy the photographers were kicking up a fuss about Kim and Kanye, as usual. We were back at the Halle Freyssinet, and the show was once more in the round accompanied by live performers. But beyond those first-impression factors, we saw a very different Riccardo Tisci. The hothouse flowers, the Disney deer, the mad bunching of fabrics around the waistline from Fall—all gone. In their place was something that was by comparison rather restrained, every last look gliding out calmly on flat sandals.

Pre - Fall 2014 GIVENCHY

Every designer is a mash-up artist, but Riccardo Tisci relishes the mix more than most. Africa. Gustav Klimt. Bauhaus. They all came together in his bold new Pre-Fall lineup for Givenchy—Africa in the primary color scheme, Klimt in the mosaic prints, and Bauhaus in the geometric color-blocking, not only on trouser legs and the hem of a tailored jacket, but also on a fantastic feather chubby, its plumes exactingly sheared to accentuate its graphic lines.

Givenchy Unveils Its Pre-Fall ’14 Menswear

Givenchy’s Riccardo Tisci traveled to New York this week to present his new Pre-Fall collection to the press. But like several other designers of late (among them Calvin Klein Collection’s Italo Zucchelli and Dior Homme’s Kris Van Assche), Tisci is promoting not only his women’s pre-collection, but one for men, too. “This collection comprises the ten essential looks for the Givenchy man,” he told Style.com about the men’s line, which features tribal prints and geometric details, as well as new plays on bleached denim.

The 7 Rules of Makeup Organization You Need to Follow

An ever-growing cosmetic collection can be cause for celebration, yes. But it can also lead to chaos on your bathroom counter. Lipstick rolling onto the floor, blush spilling into the sink, missing mascara—chaos. Here are seven rules that will lead you to organizational bliss.

1. Pick Drawers over counter tops.
Store your makeup in drawers to keep it out of direct sunlight and away from life’s inevitable little messes. This will keep your counter space decluttered and preserve your favorite products.

How to Get Nail Polish Off Just About Anything

Into every life, a little nail polish must fall. But just because you accidentally lacquered your skirt, desk, or couch, that doesn't mean the stuff has to stay there. The faster you act, the better off you'll be, and most materials respond well to solvents you already have lying around the house. See our easy polish stain fixes now.

Removing Polish From Wood
First rule: don't use nail polish remover on wood. It actually ruins finishes and leaves new, maybe even worse looking, stains. Don't panic, though, because there's actually a really easy way to fix the polish-on-wood problem. Just spritz your polish puddle down with plenty of hair spray (we use Aqua Net), let it sit for about 20 seconds, and then wipe it off. You might need to repeat the process a few times, but it's far, far preferable to having splotchy furniture.

How Beyoncé Angered Nasa

BEYONCÉ has been criticised by Nasa after she used an audio clip from the 1986 Challenger shuttle accident in a new song, entitled XO. The track opens with an excerpt taken from television footage heard when the shuttle exploded and fell from space, killing its seven crew members.

"The Challenger accident is an important part of our history; a tragic reminder that  space exploration is risky and should never be trivialised," a Nasa statement said. "Nasa works every day to honour the legacy of our fallen astronauts as we carry out our mission to reach for new heights and explore the universe."
